Thor's Hammer Jewelry and its Meaning

Thor's hammer is a traditional protective amulet that served both as a symbol of conscious paganism and as a counter-symbol to the Christian cross. Thor not only fought with his hammer but also used it for consecration, such as weddings, legal pronouncements, and other ceremonies.

Once upon a time in Asgard – the story of Thor's hammer

Mjölnir is the name of Thor's magical hammer. The dwarves Brokk and Sindri once forged it from uru ore. It is magical because it always hits its target and then returns to Thor, and only to Thor. Legend has it that Brokk was pricked in the eyelid while forging it, causing the hammer shaft to be too short. The giant Thrym stole the hammer and demanded the goddess Freyja as his bride in return. When Freyja refused, Thor disguised himself as the bride and went to the realm of the giants. Thrym fell for it and placed the hammer in the bride's lap, an ancient custom as a sign of blessing. As soon as Thor had the hammer back in his hands, he slew the giant and his men. Victorious, he returned to Asgard. The hammer's last use came when Thor encountered the Midgard Serpent for the third time. Although he was able to slay it with Mjölnir, he himself died from the serpent's venom after only nine steps.
